Cheap Mattresses: Buy Quality Brands for Less | Joseph James

A cheap mattress does not have to mean a low-quality one. The trick is to buy a genuine, brand-new, big-brand mattress through the outlet channel rather than at full retail price. At Joseph James Furniture Outlet we sell brand-new, sealed mattresses from names like Tempur, Emma, Silentnight and Simba at a fraction of their original RRP, all sealed and never slept on.

Does a cheap mattress mean poor quality?

No, not if you buy it the right way. There are two very different kinds of "cheap mattress":

  • Cheaply made mattresses: thin, low-spec models built down to a price. These are cheap because they are basic.
  • Quality mattresses sold cheaply: genuine, brand-name mattresses that reach an outlet through cancelled orders, clearance and overstock, and are priced to clear. These are cheap because of how they are sold, not how they are made.

We deal in the second kind. You get a proper Tempur, Emma or Silentnight mattress, brand-new, for far less than the shop price.

Are your cheap mattresses brand-new and hygienic?

Yes. This is the question everyone asks about a cheap mattress, and the answer matters: every mattress we sell is brand-new, sealed and never slept on. Our stock comes from cancelled orders, overstock and clearance, not from anyone's bedroom. It is not used, and it is not ex-display. You are buying a fresh, factory-sealed mattress, just at an outlet price instead of a retail one.

How to buy a quality mattress for less

  • Buy brand-new from the outlet channel. Clearance and cancelled-order stock is the same mattress, priced to clear.
  • Look at the original RRP, not just the price. A genuine brand mattress reduced from a high RRP is a better buy than a no-name mattress at a similar price.
  • Know your size and firmness before you shop. That way you can grab the right bargain quickly when it appears.
  • Stick to trusted brands. A brand-new Tempur, Emma or Silentnight mattress at an outlet price gives you quality and value together.
  • Buy in person if you can. You are welcome to try mattresses at our showrooms before you buy.

The best cheap mattress brands we stock

We regularly get sought-after mattress brands in as brand-new clearance and cancelled orders. Look out for:

  • Tempur: the original memory foam brand, known for pressure-relieving support. Rarely cheap at retail, which makes the outlet saving significant.
  • Emma: hugely popular award-winning foam and hybrid mattresses, at a fraction of the usual price.
  • Silentnight: the UK's best-known mattress brand, with reliable pocket-sprung and Miracoil comfort.
  • Simba: modern hybrid mattresses combining foam and springs.
  • Sleepeezee: quality British-made pocket-sprung mattresses.

Cheap mattresses by size

Whatever bed you have, there is a brand-new mattress to fit it:

Memory foam, pocket sprung or hybrid: which is right for you?

The main mattress types, in plain terms:

  • Memory foam (like Tempur and Emma foam models) moulds to your body and relieves pressure points. Great for support and for couples, as it limits movement transfer.
  • Pocket sprung (like many Silentnight and Sleepeezee models) uses individual springs for responsive, breathable support. A classic, cooler-sleeping feel.
  • Hybrid (like Simba and Emma hybrid models) combines springs and foam for the best of both: support with pressure relief.

There is no single best type, only the best for you. If you can, try each at one of our showrooms.

How much should a mattress cost?

At full retail, a quality double mattress from a major brand often runs from a few hundred pounds to well over £1,000, and premium Tempur models considerably more. Buying the exact same mattress brand-new through the outlet channel is where the value is: you are paying an outlet price for a full-price mattress, which is how you get genuine quality cheaply.

Cheap mattress FAQs

Are cheap mattresses any good?
They can be excellent, if you buy a genuine brand-name mattress sold cheaply rather than a cheaply made one. Our mattresses are big-brand models priced low because they come through the outlet channel, not because they are low quality.

Are your mattresses brand-new?
Yes. Every mattress we sell is brand-new, sealed and never slept on. We do not sell used or ex-display mattresses.

Which brands do you stock?
Genuine Tempur, Emma, Silentnight, Simba and Sleepeezee mattresses, among others, all brand-new.

Why are they so much cheaper?
Because they reach us as cancelled orders, overstock and clearance, and are priced to clear rather than at a full retail margin.

Can I try a mattress before buying?
Yes. You can try mattresses in person at our showrooms in Stockport, Stretford, St Helens and Warrington.
