HOW IT WORKS
Joseph James Furniture Outlet sells genuine, brand-new, brand-name furniture, from DFS, Sofology, Furniture Village, G Plan and more, for up to 70% below the original RRP. We can do that because of how we source our stock: cancelled orders, clearance and overstock, bought to clear rather than made to order at full retail margins. We have been trading since 2019 and have four physical showrooms you can visit. The vast majority of our stock is brand-new; on the rare occasion a piece has minor damage from production or transit, we say so clearly in the description with photos. Here is exactly how it works, and why it is genuine.

Why is our furniture so much cheaper?
The short answer: we sell furniture through the clearance channel, not the retail channel. A high-street retailer prices a sofa to cover a made-to-order supply chain, large showrooms and national advertising, then adds a retail margin on top. We buy stock that already exists and needs to be cleared, and price it to move. That is the whole difference.
Three things make the saving possible:
- We buy clearance stock, not retail stock. Cancelled orders, overstock and end-of-line pieces are priced to clear, not to hit a retail margin.
- It already exists, so nothing is made to order. There is no weeks-long manufacturing wait, and no made-to-order cost built into the price.
- We run lean. We pass the saving on rather than spending it on constant national advertising.
Same brand, same product, same brand-new condition, a fraction of the price.
Where our stock comes from
The vast majority of what we sell is brand-new and unused. It reaches us through three routes:
- Cancelled orders: brand-new furniture from an order the original customer cancelled before delivery. Never delivered, never used, simply no longer needed by the first buyer.
- Clearance and end-of-line: brand-new stock from ranges a retailer is discontinuing or replacing with newer collections, cleared to make room.
- Overstock and surplus: brand-new excess stock from ranges that were simply over-produced. Identical to what is in the showroom, minus the showroom price.
| Source | What it is | Condition |
|---|---|---|
| Cancelled orders | Orders the original customer cancelled before delivery | Brand-new, unused |
| Clearance / end-of-line | Discontinued or replaced ranges | Brand-new, unused |
| Overstock / surplus | Over-produced excess stock | Brand-new, unused |
To be clear about what we do not sell: we do not sell ex-display or used furniture. Almost everything we sell is brand-new. Occasionally, a small number of pieces are damaged during production or in transit rather than through use. Whenever that is the case, the item is always clearly labelled as damaged in the product description, with photos of the damage, so you know exactly what you are buying.
Is it genuine, brand-name furniture?
Yes. Everything we sell is 100% authentic furniture from the original brand, not a copy or a lookalike. A DFS sofa from us is a genuine DFS sofa; a G Plan recliner is a genuine G Plan recliner. The only difference between our piece and the one in the brand's showroom is how it reached us and what you pay for it.
Is it really brand-new?
The vast majority of our stock is. "Brand-new" means never used and never lived with. Because our stock is cancelled orders, overstock and clearance, it comes to us new, boxed or as fresh warehouse stock, not from anyone's living room. It is not ex-display and it is not second-hand.
The exception is a small number of pieces that were damaged during production or in transit. These have never been used either, but they do carry some damage, so we describe it clearly and show photos of it on the product page. Nothing is ever hidden: if an item has a fault, you will see it, and see photos of it, before you buy.
Is it too good to be true?
It is a fair question, and the honest answer is no, it is simply a different way of buying. Here is why you can shop with confidence:
- We have been trading since 2019.
- We have four physical showrooms in Stockport, Stretford, St Helens and Warrington, so you can see and sit on the furniture before you buy.
- We inspect every piece before it is listed.
- We disclose everything. Almost all of our stock is brand-new; on the rare piece with production or transit damage, we label it clearly and show photos of the damage.
- Online orders are covered by a 14-day returns window.
- Thousands of customers have bought from us, and our reviews are there to read.
A price that looks too good usually has a catch. Ours is transparent: the stock is priced to clear, and you can come and check it in person.
How we check every piece
Because we handle this furniture every day, we inspect each item before it goes on sale and check its condition:
- Frame and joints: solid, square and squeak-free.
- Cushions and suspension: seat springs and foam checked as new.
- Mechanisms: recliner actions, sofa-bed frames and drawer runners tested.
- Completeness: all fixings, feet and parts present.
For almost all of our stock this confirms it is brand-new and unused. On the rare occasion we find damage from production or transit, we do not hide it: we photograph it and describe it clearly on the product page, and price the item accordingly.

Yes. We have been trading since 2019, we have four physical showrooms in Stockport, Stretford, St Helens and Warrington, and every order online is covered by a 14-day returns window.
Why is your furniture so cheap?
Because we sell through the clearance channel, not the retail channel. Our stock is cancelled orders, overstock and clearance, priced to clear rather than to a retail margin, and we do not carry the made-to-order and advertising costs built into a full-price piece.
Is the furniture brand-new?
The vast majority of what we sell is brand-new and unused: cancelled orders, overstock and clearance stock. Occasionally, a small number of pieces are damaged during production or in transit rather than through use; whenever that is the case, the damage is clearly described with photos on the product page. We do not sell ex-display or used furniture.
Do you ever sell damaged furniture?
Only occasionally, and never anything used. Now and then a piece is damaged during production or in transit. Whenever an item is affected, we state it clearly in the description and include photos of the damage, so you can decide with full information. The vast majority of our stock is brand-new.
Is it genuine brand-name furniture?
Yes. It is 100% authentic furniture from the original brands, such as DFS, Sofology, Furniture Village and G Plan, not copies.
Can I see the furniture before I buy?
