Introduction (0:00)
Today we are reviewing the Romilly range from Furniture Village. It's from Furniture Village, but it's in partnership with The Lounge Co., another sofa company. It's a popular range, mainly for comfort reasons.
Comfort and support (0:15)
It's got really high lumbar support while still looking quite modern. Typically these high neck supports are found on more traditional-looking sofas, which lose that style element, but the Romilly range still has style. It's modern and elegant but also contemporary, and you get that great high back, neck and head support that people who have back pain, or who are just looking for that ultra-comfort feel, can really relax on. It's very popular for that reason.
Fixed back cushions (0:48)
It's also quite simplistic in the sense that you've got no cushions that can move around or get messy. The back cushions have a zip at the back, so they zip into the back of the sofa and can't move. For example, this one's zipped in here, so it won't come off. A lot of people like that because it means the sofa stays the same and there's very little maintenance. One negative is that you can't flip them around, because they're not reversible. You can unzip them if you need to wash them, but you can't turn the cushions over.
Will it fit through the door? (1:17)
When you take the cushions off and take the legs off, the frame of the sofa is only 65 centimetres. Twist it on its side and you only need 65 centimetres of width to fit it through.
Seat and back cushions (1:29)
The Romilly range comes with foam-filled base cushions, so they're quite firm. I'd say a medium-to-firm comfort level. The back cushions are fibre filled but obviously quite high, so they give really strong lumbar support and great comfort overall. I'm a big fan of this kind of comfort. It's not a real sinky sofa like you might find with some deeper sofas.
Legs and height (1:50)
The legs on the Romilly range are 15 centimetres high, which is quite high for a sofa. That's a positive in most cases, because it means you can get under it with a hoover quite easily for cleaning, and it helps with delivery because it gives a smaller overall frame. The legs are universal, so you could unscrew them and fit any leg you want, ordered from Amazon or wherever, but it's quite a stylish leg, simple in shape and colour, and I quite like it. The height is good. The only reason you might not like a higher sofa is if you're after something lower to really sink into and relax, but the height fits in with what this sofa is about: support and high lumbar support. A high leg keeps you further off the ground, which makes it easier to get out of.
Price (2:30)
This range varies in price at Furniture Village depending on what sale they have it at. The retail price is about £2,000 for a four-seater, and at the moment it's on sale at about £1,595, so the price is quite high for a four-seater. We're a bit cheaper here at Joseph James. We're an outlet, so we receive the cancelled orders and ex-display items, which means we might sell a four-seater at around £990 rather than the £1,590 at Furniture Village. We don't get them all the time, though. It's the luck of the draw what arrives on the huge containers of stock we receive.
Colours and fabrics (2:59)
Colour-wise, this one is the Midnight Indigo. It's quite a dark navy, so not something that's going to stand out in your room, but a nice colour either way. We do receive quite a bit in the mustard yellow, which is very popular and very stylish, and we've had it in olive green before as well. So there's a good variety of modern colours in this range, and lots of fabrics, as with most Furniture Village ranges.
Overall score (3:25)
The overall score for me would be 7.9 out of 10. I love the comfort. I quite like the style, which is simplistic and modern, but I'd like something a bit more ornate for the price point it's at, around £1,500 for a four-seater. I'd like a few more features.
